Leadwires (Cables)
Many different leadwires are available for the various TENS and NMES devices.

The typical "pin-connector" at the electrode end of the leadwire is pretty well standard for all devices. However, with many manufacturers choosing different "device-connectors" there is often a limited choice as to available lengths. Typical standard lengths are 36"-40" with longer ones being 52"-60".
Following is just a sampling of the various types:
> Universal Co-Axial: The most common unit connector until a couple of years ago. It looks like a small silver pin similar to a stereo headphone connector. This type of cable is no longer available for shipment to the USA due to FDA regulations.
> Banana-Pin Connector: Was used exclusively for older Staodyn devices. Now converted to "safety-type" cable by Rehabilicare.
> Safety Cable - Right Angle: Becoming the most common leadwire for many newer devices. This is a shielded cable that appears to be black plastic, often with a yellow tip on the inside.
> Safety Cable - Keyhole: A black plastic connector with 2 tiny holes visible. Sticks straight out from the device.
> Safety Cable - "Specific": Some manufacturers have produced cable connectors that are unique to their devices only:
Grey Plastic Keyhole Shape (straight) for Rehabilicare, Cefar, etc.
Grey or Black Plastic 3-Hole (straight) for Danmeter - Elpha series
Large Diameter Black Plastic Pin (right angle) for Empi - all units except Eclipse+
> Cable Extenders: Add-ons for any leadwires that allow for lengthening of the cables by 12".
> A limited number of cables for all the above styles can also be found with a "snap-connector" on the electrode end. This type can only be used with snap-type electrodes of which there is a very limited choice. A better solution is to use a standard pin-connector leadwire with a "pin-to-snap" adapter to allow for use of snap-type electrodes when required.
Prices per leadwire (i.e. per channel) range from CAD$15.00 to $26.00 (or USD similar) depending on size and style.
